Good News!

Did you like the title of this blog post – “Good News!”?

Yah, well, if you’re anything like me (and if you’re reading this, I’m guessing you are), I am so emotionally exhausted by all the horrific news out there in our country and the world that I welcome good news — something, anything will do.

Sadly, you have to really dig through the headlines to unearth some rays of light.

Happily, I’m all about finding what’s most bitch’in in life, and so I’ve dug up a few nuggets to brighten your day and reassure you that all is not lost…

Taylor Swift and Kanye West are both human… and the news cycle can be interrupted by silly things like pop star “feuds”: The crazy brouhaha over whether or not Taylor was aware of Kayne’s lyrics about her in his song “Famous” that transpired this past week because of Kim’s SnapChat story was in my humble opinion, very life affirming. In it, you see Kanye talking like a normal dude who just wants to be friends, and Taylor being cordial and thanking him for the heads up, saying she was sure the lyrics about them possibly having sex cuz he “made that bitch famous,” were just “tongue and cheek.” Kim was trying to say that Taylor’s subsequent bashing of Kanye was uncool, but all it really served to do is show that Taylor is human — we yes people to death that we don’t really like to get them off our backs and then the chips fall where they may. And Kanye too, seemingly has some feelings. If any of the story is true, he was trying not to be a complete dick, which is a nice, humanizing thought as well.

Now everyone can go back to selling a zillion tickets and downloads, and the Earth may continue to spin.

Melania Trump and Michelle Obama share the same sentiments about American values: I know everyone went batshit crazy when it appeared that Melania @ the 2016 RNC plagiarized Michelle @ the 2008 DNC. But take the P word out of the equation, and what you get is something that looks suspiciously like agreement between the two ends of the political spectrum.

Melania said: “From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect.”

Michelle said: “Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: like you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect.”

Yas, Queens! We ALL agree that values like hard work, integrity, dignity and respect are important.

Now we can all consider reaching across the aisle to get some real shit done, and the Earth may not actually implode.

Meanwhile, in India, 50 million trees were planted in 24 hours to fight climate change: Sure I had to pop on over to Upworthy.com to find *real* good news, but I thought that nugget was pretty solid. This is proof positive that there are people — lots and lots of people (approx. 800,000 who got off their couches not to play Pokémon Go, but to plant trees in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh) — that are doing something to save the planet. Sure, their intent was also to break a record of tree planting previously set by rival nation Pakistan, but that’s one battle I think is well worth waging.

Now we can all do something positive to enhance the likelihood of a future for our planet, and Earth might just have a fighting chance.

From the personal Bitch’in Files, I realize that we really ARE more the same than different: This past week I hosted a friend I hadn’t seen in person in many years  and his family from Scotland by way of Dubai. I’d only “met” his wife through Facebook, and although the glimpses into their day-to-day looked somewhat familiar, I had no idea how similar we were. The first night they stayed with us, my daughter and I took my friend’s wife and daughter shopping and out for dinner. While the girls immediately connected on shopping, celeb gossip and presumably, boys, us grown ass women talked mom shop… and yes, connected on shopping, celeb gossip and maybe even boys (just a little bit!) That we could all stew about (*SPOILER ALERT*) Shonda’s cold offing of McDreamy on Grey’s Anatomy, for example, gave us some simple ways of connecting so that by the time they left, we all felt like we’d made fast friends that will last a lifetime — regardless of the time, cultures and miles that physically separate us.

Remembering that we are more the same than different is the best news of all — and it renews our faith that everyone on Earth might just hug it out after all.

And one more bit o’ good news – I’m launching a brand, spankin’ new YouTube Channel, It’s the TruStory, where I’m gonna do a bunch of things for you so you don’t have to. (Much like last summer when I saw Magic Mike XXL so you didn’t have to… oh the sacrifices I make for my bitches!)

Here’s the trailer for the channel, and if you want more, please be sure to SUBSCRIBE.

So if you see me whistling a happy tune, just know that I’m always on the hunt for the good, the great and the completely bitchin’. Let me know what I can do so you don’t have to, and that’ll be good news for all of us =)
